South Hills Retirement Residence Tour

Pittsburgh’s first hybrid pv/cogen project at South Hills High School adaptive reuse project a 27kw photo voltaic array with a 65kw co-generation plant that will reduce carbon footprint of on site power by 85%.

Ernest J. Sota - President of Sota Construction Services Inc. and Green Development Inc. Professional experience includes architectural design work at the Urban Redevelopment Authority, construction project management and real estate development for new construction, adaptive reuse and historically certified restoration projects in the Pittsburgh region. Has had a strong interest in preservation and sustainable design since the mid 1970s. 

Founded Sota Construction Services Inc. in 1993; a mission driven general contracting firm focused on quality and practical sustainable solutions that performs over 25 million per year of construction. Founded Green Development Inc. in 2001; a real estate development firm that has as its goal producing real estate that synthesizes profitability, excellent architectural design, sustainability and craft.


George M. Gittinger, C.E.M., LEED AP, Design Build Department Manager for Tudi Mechanical Systems, Inc. Professional experience covers 30 years in the HVAC field, including published medical engineering research, design consulting, contracting, sales engineering and manufacturing, with special interests in energy solutions such as: energy recovery, geothermal, solar, and combined heat & power systems.

Has designed, constructed and acted as consultant on hundreds of commercial, industrial, & residential geothermal heating and cooling projects. Application specific geothermal technologies include: rare document humidity control, domestic & process water heating, integrated municipal water, aquifer thermal energy storage and energy recovery system integration.

Submitted and executed Department of Energy, as well as EPA energy grants consisting of self sustaining agricultural energy recovery, solar pod collectors and hybrid geothermal systems.

Professional memberships include: ASHRAE, USGBC, IGSHPA and AEE with related Energy Management, Energy Auditing, Building Commissioning, Geothermal Design & Distributed Generation certifications.
